Is A Vegan/Vegetarian Diet Good for Children?
Updated: Jan 19, 2021
Some children decide for themselves that they would like to eat a plant-based diet. Some might call it being picky, but I think children intuitively know what they like and what makes them feel good. I have witnessed my children and other children that I have cooked for absolutely refuse to eat meat. Is meat something we should force on our kids? Of course not! When you plan vegan and vegetarian meals for children, it will be very important to make sure they eat a well-balanced diet. A well-balanced diet ensures we are meeting all of our children’s nutritional needs. Keep in mind that as you begin to transition your kids into a plant-based diet that pulses eaten together with grains, nuts, and seeds provide complete protein, which is necessary for children. There are lots of healthy choices for dietary fat for children, including peanut butter, avocado, cheese, yogurt, and nuts. Most children enjoy these foods anyway. Be sure to check with your child’s doctor about food allergies and intolerances. This cookbook is designed to expand your plant-friendly cooking choices and to show parents that cooking meals with no meat for their kids do not have to be boring or limited.
