Is A Meat-Less Diet Beneficial?

Some people enjoy eating meats because they are packed with flavor and many have become accustomed to its taste. Did you know that you can enjoy plant-based meals just the same? The Gorgeous Green Chef believes that staying healthy and fit are key components to maintaining a long and healthy life. People who limit their consumption of meats to little to nothing have been able to heal their bodies of serious illnesses and have been able to successfully lose weight.

What are some benefits to not eating meat?

  1. Less meat is good for the heart; eating less meat can drastically decrease your chances of type 2 diabetes.

  2. Less meat, less weight gain; removing meat from your diet can and will help you manage weight loss effectively.

  3. Eating less meat can lower your risk of colon and prostate cancer.

Meat was once considered healthy, essential for protein, and building strong muscles. However, recent studies have shown that meat is full of antibiotics, causes inflammation, and can lead to heart disease. Some meats are high in saturated fats which causes a rise in cholesterol and can later develop into heart disease.

A plant-based diet lowers your risk of heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and different cancers. There are known benefits to adopting a diet high in vitamin-packed foods full of C, A, E, D, B, and minerals like zinc, iron, calcium, and potassium. Foods like deep leafy green vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and seeds are full of these vitamins and minerals that supply the body with the building blocks of your immune system defenses. You may be wondering where will your protein sources come from on a plant-based diet? Foods such as lentils, green split peas, chia seeds, tofu, edamame, chickpeas, peas, peanuts, almonds, and quinoa are excellent sources of proteins when transitioning into a plant-based diet.

I have noticed that many people avoid a completely plant-based diet because they don't know how to make the most out of their meals. We tend to think of boring salads, bland vegetables, and bitter-tasting vegetable and fruit juices. With a little research, you can find an abundance of delicious recipes for healthy plant-based cooking. In the Gorgeous Green Chef's newest e-book 30 Meat-Less Recipes For Kids, chef S. Nichole has put together 30 breakfast recipes to help parents transition their kids into a plant-based diet. This book is also great for adults. It's a great start for those who cannot cut meat cold turkey and would like to take it one step at a time.

Breakfast has always been recognized as the most important meal of the day. Breakfast is also one of those meals where it is packed with meats such as bacon, sausage, and processed meats. Cutting meat from at least one meal a day is a great start. Let's start with breakfast. Eating a healthy plant-based breakfast can aid in increased concentration, increased energy, and prevention of sluggishness sometimes known as the "ITIS". It is very important for school-age children to be focused, especially in the mornings. It's very possible to enjoy foods with no meats, and the health benefits can be life-changing.
